One of the most important events for cryptocurrency traders and exchanges – The Meetup Exchanges – took place in Singapore on November 14. The event was held as part of the Singapore Fintech Festival + Blockshow Asia. 

It was the first specialized event of its kind for crypto exchanges and crypto traders held in Asia. More than 150 participants and 15 speakers from 13 countries, including traders and fintech experts, as well as representatives of crypto exchanges and financial regulators, met to discuss the most important problems in the cryptosphere and work out ways to solve them. 

The meetup included three panels, each devoted to a specific subset of issues affecting crypto exchanges. The first panel, “Crypto market problems and real opportunities for exchanges,” moderated by Michael Nye, host of the What Is Crypto podcast, focused on issues directly related to exchanges. This included a decrease in trading volumes, an abundance of false information, fictitious trading volumes, and lack of liquidity.

The main event of the panel was Remme CEO Alex Momot’s talk “Fake volume doesn’t matter anymore and how to make swaps based on market depth.”

The title of the second panel was “Regulations and licensing out of one’s jurisdiction:  opportunities and limitations,” the main theme of which is evident.

Today, crypto exchanges in different countries are subject to completely different requirements. There is no single “rulebook.” As a result, exchanges, traders, and other market participants often can’t figure out how to play fair. After all, each region has its own specifics, and the rules themselves are often extremely vague.

Panel participants discussed KYC\AML procedures, regulators’ attitude to cryptocurrency transactions, crypto derivatives, margin trading, and security token licensing issues.

The third panel was entirely devoted to security problems of the crypto market. Both the security of crypto exchanges and the problems of individual cryptocurrencies, wallets, and additional software were discussed.

The discussion was moderated by Dmitriy Budorin, Co-Founder and CEO at Hacken.
